Commerce City Police Detective Curt Holland was laid to rest on Saturday, eight days after he was killed in a motor vehicle accident while on-duty, was laid to rest on Saturday.

Mask-wearing family, friends and fellow officers sat in the stands of Dick’s Sporting Good’s Park and watched as the coffin of the fallen detective was placed in the middle of the sideline and covered with an American flag.

CCPD officers escorted their fallen comrade from the funeral home in Arvada at 11 a.m. to the stadium, which is less than a half mile southeast of the police department headquarters.

Pictures of Holland throughout his 37 years of life were displayed on the main scoreboard of the park. Many included him with his wife, kids, parents, friends and colleagues.

Before the end of the celebration of the officer’s life, he received an honorary 21-gun salute, while fellow officers stood and saluted.

Holland was then carried into the motorcade by nine of his colleagues of the CCPD to be driven to his final resting spot at Fairview Cemetery in Brighton.

On Saturday, Gov. Jared Polis ordered that all flags at public buildings be lowered to half staff to honor Holland.

On Oct. 16, the Colorado State Patrol was dispatched to a car accident that happened near Colorado Highway 2 and Turnberry Parkway in Commerce City.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. a Ford F350 that was traveling south on Highway 2 drove off the side of the road onto the shoulder, and while getting back onto the road it collided head-on with Holland’s undercover Ford Explorer, CSP said.

The vehicle was sent towards a Kia Soul driven by Francesca Dominguez, 31, who also died during the crash.

Fructoso Rosales-Cano was the driver of the Ford F350 and was sent to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, The Denver Gazette previously reported.
