Denver creates $435,000 relief fund for local restaurants, bars

The city and county of Denver created a $435,000 relief fund for restaurants and bars that expanded or added an outdoor seating area to comply with COVID-19 regulations.

The funds will be distributed through individual grants to restaurants and bars involved in Denver’s Temporary Outdoor Dining Program.

The program was created in May to allow businesses to operate outdoors for greater physical distancing by expanding outdoor areas into adjacent parking lots, streets and sidewalks.

About 346 restaurants and bars are currently participating in the program.

“The City and County of Denver is continuing to support local businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic by making financial support available to restaurants and bars,” the announcement said Wednesday.

The $435,000 comes from funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The number and size of the awarded grants will be determined by the number of eligible applicants.

Eligibility requirements include submitting receipts dated between March 16 and Nov. 13 for the costs of the temporary expansions.

Applicants cannot already have been reimbursed for the same expansion through other public or private programs.
