Good Samaritan saves kitten frozen to semitruck tire in Commerce City
A good Samaritan saved the life of a 5-week-old kitten Monday after finding her frozen to the tire of a parked semitrailer in Commerce City, the Denver Dumb Friends League said.
The man discovered the kitten after hearing a meow from beneath the trailer.
The kitten was hanging off the side of the tire with her paws and tail frozen to the metal surface, likely trying to find shelter from Monday’s 19-degree temperatures.
The man immediately climbed under the trailer and splashed warm water on the kitten’s tail and paws to try to free her while keeping her as dry as possible, the Denver Dumb Friends League said.
It took nearly 20 minutes to free the kitten, the man said.
Once free, the kitten was wrapped in a blanket and brought to the Dumb Friends League, where she received a veterinary exam, food and warm shelter.
The Dumb Friends League said the kitten has limited injuries and is resting in the shelter. She will be placed for adoption once she is fully recovered and reaches 8 weeks old.
The man who saved the kitten plans to adopt her once she is ready.
“Without intervention from the compassionate stranger, it is unlikely this kitten would have survived the night,” the Dumb Friends League said.
The kitten is on pain medication for swelling in her front paws but officials said she is healthy and becoming more comfortable with staff at the Dumb Friends League.
