Coloradans across the state came together and had their voices heard in the 2020 Election, more than ever before.

Although some ballots are still being processed, as of Wednesday afternoon 3,303,265 Coloradans had voted in this year’s election, officials from the Colorado Secretary of State’s office said in a press release.

“This is an historic election. More Coloradans voted in this election than in any previous election in our state’s history, even in the midst of a pandemic. Colorado’s elections set the gold standard for the nation: it is clear that when people have access, they will vote,” said Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold in the release.

“I am proud of Colorado’s elections and the voting access that we have added over the last two years. I also commend the county election officials, election judges, and the employees of the Department of State for doing such a tremendous job.”

This year nearly 500,000 more Coloradans participated in the voting process compared to four years ago, when 2.76 million people voted.

Of 4.3 million Coloradan’s who are eligible to vote, 78.4% did so, which is 4 percentage points higher than four years ago.

Colorado had the third-highest turnout rate in the county behind Minnesota and New Hampshire, according to the United States Election Project.

As of Wednesday evening, 1.1 million Democrats had their ballots recorded compared to the 1.03 million Republicans, according to statistics from the Secretary of State’s Office.

Unaffiliated voters topped the charts with 1.5 million ballots currently being counted.
