The Colorado Ballet is teaming with Rocky Mountain PBS to air holiday broadcasts of the ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker,” the companies announced Tuesday.

As a result of COVID-19, the Colorado Ballet will not be able to give its annual in-person performance of “The Nutcracker” at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. This means a severe loss of revenue from ticket sales.

“While we are disappointed that we cannot gather together in the theatre this season … we are delighted to present ‘The Nutcracker’ on Rocky Mountain PBS for you to view with your family from the safety of your home,” said Colorado Ballet director Gil Boggs.

“During these challenging times, we hope that being able to enjoy this annual tradition will bring viewers joy and comfort.”

The first broadcast will air on PBS on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. The performance will also air on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. and on Christmas at midnight.

Other broadcasts include Nov. 27 at 3 p.m., Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. and Dec. 19 at 1 a.m.

“Rocky Mountain PBS is grateful for the opportunity to share the joy of the holiday season through the honored tradition of ‘The Nutcracker,’” said CEO Amanda Mountain. “Support is particularly important during this time, as arts organizations search for unique ways to engage the community.”

In addition to the Rocky Mountain PBS channel, the performance will also be streamed for free on the Rocky Mountain PBS app, available at rmpbs.org/pbs-video-app/.

The performance and broadcasting of “The Nutcracker” is funded by PNC Bank, with support from Genesee Mountain Foundation, Colorado Athletic Club, David and Mary Ellen Wright and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
