Nearly 100 warrants resolved in Boulder Fresh Start Program
Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty held the district’s third Fresh Start Program on Saturday, resolving nearly 100 arrest warrants in one day.
The Fresh Start Program gives people an opportunity to resolve their active warrants from non-violent, low-level misdemeanor or traffic cases and move toward a resolution in the case.
“It was an amazing day. This program is a unique opportunity for people to get their cases, and their lives, back on the right track,” Dougherty said. “The sense of relief for participants was palpable.”
On Saturday, 73 people participated in the program and 97 warrants were resolved.
Nearly all participants were contacted by the DA’s office to assure they hadn’t gone into hiding or fled the jurisdiction as a result of their warrants.
Dougherty said the program saves valuable law enforcement resources and taxpayer dollars by avoiding the arrest and custody process for these 97 warrants.
The program was held at the Boulder County Justice Center and Longmont Courthouse. Because of COVID-19, participants were also able to attend virtual court for the first time.
The program was held in collaboration with the DA’s office, the Boulder City Attorney’s Office, judges, criminal defense attorneys, immigration attorneys, courthouse staff and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
