Douglas County School to shift completely remote after Thanksgiving break

Douglas County School District

The continuing spread of COVID-19 throughout Colorado is pushing another school district to shift to distance learning.

Corey Wise the interim superintendent for the Douglas County School District informed parents and faculty members on Thursday stated that the district will switch to fully remote learning beginning on Nov. 30.

According to the letter, the district has nearly 5,000 students and staff members currently in quarantine and 13 schools have already shifted to remote learning.

“This is creating a significant staffing shortage for in-person learning that can no longer be overcome,” Wise wrote.

The number of students and staff quarantined is expected to rise over the next couple of days, according to the letter.

The district will reevaluate throughout December to decide their future plans for second semester, the letter read.

Despite the district transitioning fully to remote learning, different age groups will stop in-person learning sooner than others.

Elementary schools in the district will conclude in-person learning on Nov. 19, while middle and high schools will continue through Nov. 18.

On Wednesday, the Littleton School District announced the move to fully distanced learning and followed in the footsteps of the Cherry Creek and Denver School Districts.
