A three-day investigation on an Aurora home concluded Thursday after officials say they found some potential evidence that could be connected to a disappearance of Lashaya Stine, who was 16-years-old when she disappeared in 2016.
The investigation at 2200 Lansing Street in Aurora was led by the Aurora Police Department with assistance from the FBI.
“We found some evidence that we’re going to take (it) back and process it to see if it is related to her disappearance or not, Matthew Longshore, a public information officer for the Aurora Police Department, told The Denver Gazette.
Members of the Aurora Fire and Rescue team were seen entering the home with jackhammers and shovels on Thursday after investigators asked for their assistance.
“We called in Aurora Fire and Rescue earlier this morning and they came and helped us out, because there were some concrete pieces we needed to remove and (we needed to) process the area they were removed from,” Longshore said.
Although the evidence found Thursday was not substantial, Longshore says the department is hopeful that it will lead them in the right direction.
“We hope it leads to something, but we cannot make any assumptions. We’re working closely with the FBI’s evidence response team, and hopefully it can provide us a lead, but there is nothing concrete at this point,” he said.
Investigators were led to the home in Aurora after through the investigation they established that the former occupants of the home had known Stine at the time of her disappearance.
On Wednesday, Longshore said that they were not allowed to search the home until after the current occupants moved out, and that the former occupants who had known Stine moved out several years earlier.
Stine was last seen in the early hours of July 15, 2016, near East Montview Boulevard and Peoria Street in Aurora.
Anyone with possible information about Stine’s disappearance is encouraged to contact the Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
The organization is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information about Stine’s disappearance.
