Denver Sheriff’s Office warns of potential phone scam

Officials from the Denver County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents that scammers are posing as deputies and demanding payments for outstanding warrants.

Daria Serna, the public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said they were notified about the scam by officials from the 2nd Judiciary Branch, who have been receiving numerous reports.

“A Denver Deputy Sheriff will never request payment for a warrant, nor make contact by phone. We encourage the community to be aware of these recent fraudulent activities and alert family members and friends,” a media release read.

Authorities say the impersonators are demanding payments for outstanding warrants issued for not responding to a jury summons, and in some situations they may provide a court appearance date.

Anyone wishing to find out whether they have outstanding warrants in their name can contact the Denver County Court at 720-337-0464.

Officials are encouraging anyone who may have received a similar call to contact your local police, and submit a fraud report to the Colorado State Attorney General’s Office here.
