Although Lakewood Lights 2020 is canceled due to COVID-19, officials are encouraging organizations within town to participate in the third-annual Holiday Lamp Post Decorating. 

The contest, which is hosted by Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, gives residents the opportunity to decorate each lamp with creative and festive designs that depicts the mission of their organization. 

Girl Scout Troop 65523 won the contest in 2019, according to the contest’s website. 

Due to the limited number of lamp posts, only 15 organizations can sign up for the contest and the deadline is Nov. 20.

The winner will notified by Dec. 1. They will receive a year of bragging rights, a trophy, a group tour of Heritage Lakewood and $500 credit towards meeting and event space rentals at the park.

Officials say decorations can reach up to eight feet high, but no more than one to two feet from the base of the post.
