Denver airport TSA agent dies of COVID-19

Faktorovich

A Transportation Security Administration officer at Denver International Airport known as “Gru” from “Despicable Me” died of COVID-19 on Monday, officials said.

Eduard Faktorovich, 49, worked exclusively at the northern checkpoint at the airport since April 2018.

His co-workers described him as someone they wanted to be around.

“He was largely remember by his coworkers for having a very gregarious personality and having a great sense of humor,” Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for TSA, told The Denver Gazette.

Faktorovich’s last day at DIA was on Nov. 2, and officials said he contracted the virus earlier this month.

Since TSA began tracking reported cases in March at airports across the country, 62 individuals who work at DIA have tested positive for the virus, according to TSA’s website.

Of those, 59 at DIA are screening officers. Faktorovich is the ninth TSA team employee nationwide to die because of COVID-19, Dankers said.

“Although Eduard was with TSA for only 2 1.2 years, the entire team at (DIA) is sadden by the loss of one of their own,” a media release read.

Dankers said TSA is committed to protecting all of its agents and is taking the necessary precautions to do so.
