Get ready for more I-70 traffic delays, detours in Denver

Interstate 70’s westbound off-ramp to Brighton Boulevard in Denver will begin a long-term closure Monday as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Central 70 Project.

The ramp will fully close Monday at 7 p.m. and remain closed for construction through summer 2021, officials said.

As a detour, motorists will continue westbound on I-70 and exit onto Washington Street, turn left to get onto eastbound I-70, then exit to Brighton Boulevard from that side.

Officials say heightened DUI enforcement will be on patrol starting Friday

The Central 70 Project will reconstruct a 10-mile stretch of I-70, adding an express lane in each direction, removing the 56-year-old viaduct and lowering the interstate between Brighton and Colorado boulevards.

Closing the Brighton Boulevard off-ramp will allow crews to rebuild the ramp to accommodate for the future alignment of I-70, carrying motorists from a lowered section of the interstate.

Drivers should prepare for initial traffic delays as the public adjusts to the new detours, officials said.

The work is weather dependent and subject to change.
