A week after Gov. Jared Polis and first gentleman Marlon Reis discovered they had tested positive for COVID-19, officials say they have experienced minor symptoms.

After initially testing positive for the virus, officials from the governor’s office said Polis and Reis had been asymptotic, The Denver Gazette previously reported.

Since the announcement, Polis and Reis have experienced mild symptoms including minor headaches and a lack of sleep, but remain in good spirits, officials from the governors office said in a release on Friday.

Despite currently battling the virus, Polis says they are thinking about the more than 2,700 Coloradans who have died as a result of COVID-19.

“We continued to hold those who have lost a friend or family member to this deadly virus in their hearts as well as those who have health with the more severe and lingering health effects,” Polis said in a release.

On Nov. 25, Polis entered quarantine after learning they he had been exposed to someone who had recently tested positive for COVID-19.

That day he tested negative for the virus.

Since entering quarantine he has been conducting his duties remotely and will continue to do so until he is no longer contagious to others.

Polis and Reis are expected to be non-contagious around Dec. 9, according to the release.

As hopes for a vaccine become more realistic each passing second, Polis encourages Coloradans to continue to do their part and curb the spread of COVID-19.

“Colorado will get through this and we have to stay vigilant for a little bit longer so pease continue to wear masks, social distance and avoid gathers,” he said.
