During the same week that saw the opening of Denver’s first sanctioned homeless camp, city crews embarked on three cleanups at sites.
City crews removed 661 needles and over 13 tons of trash from the three sites beginning on Tuesday, according to a news release.
The largest of the three camps was at intersection of 13th Avenue and Elati Street in the Civic Center neighborhood.
Other clean-ups were performed at camps near Coors Field and on the northern edge of the Speer neighborhood.
During the clean-up throughout the middle of the week, nearly 60 people accepted shelters, safe outdoor space and motel room information, but only five people ended up being placed, according to the release.
