The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said the county is experiencing a spike in package thefts as residents receive packages during the holiday season.
Deputies said thieves are using stolen vehicles to enter the area, steal packages from porches and then dump the vehicles nearby.
“We wanted to make sure that residents are aware of this happening, so they can be on the lookout for suspicious activity and take steps to help deter the criminals,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols in the areas experiencing the most thefts, deputies said, but they are relying on the community to help as well.
Deputies ask residents to report suspicious activity, lock vehicles, avoid having packages outside for extended periods of time, request signature requirements for deliveries, subscribe to delivery notifications or send packages to P.O. boxes, delivery service locations or workplaces.
Victims of package theft are encouraged to report it to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, as well as any surveillance footage of the theft.
