Woman extradited from Colombia after report of child abuse in Eagle County

A 23-year-old woman was extradited from Colombia to the United States after allegedly sending violent images depicting child abuse of an infant.

Morgan N. Abrums allegedly sent the photos to an El Jebel resident, who reported the incident to the Eagle County Sheriff’s office on Dec. 13.

The man relayed to law enforcement officials that he believed Abrums was in Houston when she sent the photos, which led to a multi-jurisdictional investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

Eagle County officials learned Abrums was in Bogota, Colombia with assistance from the FBI and United States Marshals Service.

Colombia law officials made contact with Abrums and took the child into custody “for safe keeping” while she was extradited to the United States.

Despite the warrant in Eagle County having no bond, she posted bond of $50,000 in Texas on the sole condition of turning herself into Colorado authorities by Monday, officials said.

Abrums has been charged with domestic violence-harassment, which is a class 3 misdemeanor, but faces additional charges pending the results of the investigation.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Albuquerque Houston and Phoenix police departments; FBI units of Colorado, Houston and Bogota; the U.S. Marshals Office of Colorado, Houston and Bogota; the United States Embassy in Colombia; and the government of Colombia to return Abrums to the United States.

Anyone with information about the incident are encouraged to contact Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007
