Colorado law firm to make COVID donations in lieu of free New Year’s Eve cabs

As the COVID-19 pandemic has upended Colorado’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, the McDivitt Law Firm has opted to donate its usual free cab fund to fighting COVID-19.

McDivitt Law Firm will be giving $25,000 to the emergency COVID-19 relief funds of Pikes Peak Community Foundation and United Way of Pueblo County.

“McDivitt is dedicated to the health and safety of our community, and always looks for ways to support those efforts,” the announcement said.

The law firm has been sponsoring cab rides home on New Year’s Eve for more than a decade to help prevent drunk driving.

However, this year, large gatherings are discouraged and bar and clubs are closed in Red Level counties.

RTD also announced it won’t be providing its annual free bus and light rail service this New Year’s Eve in an attempt to discourage gatherings and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Currently, officials estimate that one in 40 Coloradans are contagious with the coronavirus.
