Longmont Library is asking the community to submit pieces of art for a virtual expo next month

The coronavirus may have shut down museums, libraries and restaurants, but while people were at home, many have been able to enjoy their hobbies more than ever before.

With this thought in mind, the Longmont Library is inviting local artists to submit their artwork for a virtual “All Ages Art Expo” that will premiere next month.

“Even though these pieces of art were created while in solitude, the artists still created through the eyes of sharing it with others, so we want to give people the opportunity to share those pieces of art,” said Teresa Myers, the marketing and communications director for the City of Longmont.

The idea originated a few months ago when a librarian discussed having an art exhibit within the library. After realizing no one would be able to attend in-person due to COVID-19, that focus switched to an online expo instead.

Library officials are encouraging any local artists with different types of artistic talents to submit their work regardless of whether it’s a photo, sculpture, painting or even metalwork.

The goal of the expo is to highlight all the beauty that has been created amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and display it for everyone to see.

Anyone interested in submitting a piece of art can do so through the library’s Children Programs, Just for Teens Programs and Events page on their website through Jan. 31.

Artwork that is submitted will be put on display in early February and can be seen on the library’s website, YouTube page and various social media accounts.
