Injured hiker rescued from trail in Boulder County
A 48-year-old man was rescued after injuring his knee on a hiking trail in Boulder County Saturday morning, officials said.
Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) responded to a report of the man falling on ice and hitting his knee on a rock while hiking with family, along a portion of the Mesa Trail, just south of Bluebell road near Chautauqua Park at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
As a result of the injury, the man could not walk on his own to the trailhead, officials said.
Officials from the City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks (CBOSMP) and rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMRG) located the injured hiker and administered first-aid.
The injured hiker was put into a litter and carried out to the trailhead and then driven to his vehicle. He was transported to a nearby medical facility by his family, officials said.
BCSO was assisted by American Medical Response, CBOSMP and RMRG.
