A woman accused of murder in New Mexico was apprehended in Castle Rock on Tuesday
A 28-year-old woman suspected of a murder in New Mexico was arrested in Castle Rock Tuesday.
Marina Salcido of Espanola, N.M., is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of tampering with evidence for her role in the slaying of 30-year-old Saul Martinez in December.
She is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail and is awaiting extradition to New Mexico.
Espanola police officers were dispatched to 1332 Holy Cross Street in Espanola, which is about 30 minutes north of Santa Fe, after receiving a report of an abandoned vehicle with its lights on in the street shortly after 8 p.m. on Dec. 18.
Upon the arrival of officers, they located Martinez with a gunshot wound to the chest in an abandoned Mercedes-Benz.
During the investigation, officials learned Salcido was with the victim moments before his death, and was allegedly seen backing out of the driveway of her home in a black vehicle after a report of a single gunshot, officials said.
Minutes later, Salcido was seen “out of breath walking back to her residence,” officials said.
Investigators later matched Salcido’s vehicle and the Mercedes-Benz at the scene and began searching for her.
Officials learned that Salcido had traveled to Castle Rock following the incident and began coordinating with local law enforcement agencies, officials said.
The Castle Rock Police Department and the Douglas County Regional SWAT team located the defendant at a home in Castle Rock, and successfully apprehended her without incident on Tuesday.
