Police identify woman accused of stabbing Denver police officer

A 38-year-old woman is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing a Denver police officer on Wednesday night.

The officer is in stable condition despite being stabbed in the torso and leg, police spokesman Jay Casillas said.

Officers were dispatched to 620 N. Federal Blvd. in the Sun Valley neighborhood about 5 p.m. Wednesday on reports of someone trespassing and harassment.

When officers arrived, they found Alicia Esquibel and a male suspect. While attempting to apprehend them, Esquibel allegedly took out a knife and stabbed an officer, Casillas said.

Moments later, both suspects were taken into custody and the officer was taken to a hospital.

Information about the male suspect is not being released at this time.
