Deputies’ patrol unit rammed by stolen vehicle Saturday

An Arapahoe County patrol unit was rammed by a stolen vehicle Saturday morning, officials said.

Deputies inside the vehicle were not injured.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 2270 South Valentia St. shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of three suspicious vehicles.

The vehicles were a black Cadillac Escalade, a white Ford Expedition and a brown Chevrolet Silverado, said John Bartmann, a public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

The reporting party provided a license plate for the Escalade and authorities discovered it was listed as stolen from Denver, Bartmann said.

As deputies approached the vehicles’ location, they prepared to perform a high-risk stop. But as they approached the vehicle, they realized it was empty.

Minutes later, deputies located the two other vehicles in the 1900 block of South Valencia Street. The vehicles attempted to flee and in the process the Silverado struck the front right bumper of the deputies’ patrol car, Bartmann said.

A short pursuit began on East Iliff Avenue when suddenly the Silverado swerved into the westbound lane. The pursuit was stopped for safety reasons.

The Expedition continued eastbound, but deputies couldn’t keep up.

Deputies were unable to acquire the license plate for either vehicle and the suspects remain at large.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the suspects or stolen vehicles to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s dispatch line at 303-795-4711 or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
