Officials from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office discovered missing 60-year-old Steven Kost dead Wednesday night at Staunton State Park.

Kost’s family reached out to the sheriff’s office after he didn’t return from his hike Tuesday.

Officials said Kost left for Staunton State Park at 9:30 a.m. and was supposed to be home at 6 p.m., but he never made it back.

Kost’s body was found off of a trail. The sheriff’s office is investigating the death but said there is no threat to the public.
