Skier dies after hitting tree at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort
A skier died after hitting a tree Thursday at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort in Boulder County.
Officials from the Boulder County Sheriff Office said a man in his 50’s fell and slid down the Corona Run when he crashed into a tree shortly before noon Thursday.
Ski patrol immediately transported the man to medical personnel who called a medical helicopter to transport the skier, but due to high wind gusts it was unable to land in the skiing area, officials said.
The medical helicopter attempted to land two more times at Nederland High School and Baker Reservoir, but was unsuccessful due to strong winds. After the third attempt, the helicopter was low on fuel and returned back to base.
The man was then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Information about the victim will be released by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office after his identity has been confirmed and family notification.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
