74-year-old Fort Collins man stabbed 65-year-old woman, police said

A 74-year-old man in Fort Collins stabbed a 65-year-old woman during a domestic dispute Thursday morning, the Fort Collins Police Department said.

The victim called the police just after 10 a.m. after fleeing the home in the 2100 block of Bronson Street, near the intersection of South Taft Hill Road and West Horsetooth Road.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The suspect refused to leave the home when police arrived, hiding inside for 2 1/2 hours. At around 12:45 p.m., police finally entered the home and removed the suspect.

Police said the suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

“I’m grateful for the work of our first responder partners who helped provide care for all involved in this incident,” said FCPS Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky. “I also appreciate the efforts of our Special Weapons and Tactics team, who responded to help reach a safe resolution.”

During the incident, three nearby schools, including Olander Elementary School, were placed on a multi-hour “secure status” lockdown.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, is asked to call Detective Andy Kinkead at 970-221-6557.
