State launches COVID vaccine education campaign to fight misinformation
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment launched the “Get the COVID-19 Vaccine Facts” campaign Monday, aiming to educate Coloradans about the vaccine.
The campaign emphasizes the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as encourages people to use reliable sources like the CDPHE for information about the vaccine.
“With the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines underway, we know people have questions, and it’s crucial to reach as many Coloradans as possible with fact-based information,” CDPHE Executive Director Jill Hunsaker Ryan said.
“When it’s your turn to be vaccinated, we want you to be ready.”
The campaign hopes to combat misinformation and skepticism about the vaccine, featuring state medical professionals and health advocates to provide the facts.
The campaign will also include resources for vaccine distribution in Colorado, with an emphasis on those disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, including senior citizens and people of color.
In addition to publishing advertisements and CDPHE social media, Colorado community influencers from diverse backgrounds will also work to promote the campaign to ensure it reaches all communities in the state.
So far, more than 278,000 Coloradans have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 50,000 have received both doses, according to CDPHE.
As more Coloradans get vaccinated, State Epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy urges everyone to continue following public health protocols, wearing masks and social distancing.
“We can’t let up now,” Herlihy said. “It’s important to continue to protect yourself and your family from COVID-19 until a large portion of Coloradans have been vaccinated.”
