The marching band of Jefferson County’s D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School will perform in the Presidential Inauguration Parade Across America on Wednesday.

The D’Evelyn marching band was the only band in Colorado selected for the virtual national celebration, consisting of performances representing all 56 U.S. states and territories.

“With everything that’s happened with COVID, it’s nice to have one actual performance that we all get to do together,” Eric McCabe, student and marching band member, told JeffCo Public Schools journalist Jack Maher.

This is the band’s first performance together since the COVID-19 pandemic began. For safety, the band is performing outside of the school and filming the performance for the parade.

Student and marching band member Brynn Hylden told Maher that she cried all day when the band was able to pick out their uniforms for the first time since March.

“Band has a very special place in my heart,” Hylden said. “Usually, we’re just representing our school but this time we get to represent all of Colorado.”

The D’Evelyn marching band is a 100-student, eight-time 2A and 3A state champion led by director Becky Paschke.

For the inauguration parade, the band will be performing “American Patrol” written by Frank White Meecham in 1885.

“Music and the arts bring us all together,” Paschke said. “I don’t think it matters what side of the political spectrum you’re on, this is about America and this is about Colorado.”
