Englewood PD says a non-explosive device was discovered at Rotolo Park Wednesday

Police Line Do Not Cross

The Englewood Police Department (EPD) says officials recovered a non-explosive device at Rotolo Park Wednesday.

EPD officers were dispatched to the park at 4401 South Huron Street at 2:40 p.m. after a person reported seeing a man place a “cylinder with tape on it near the north fence line,” according to a release from the department.

Officials temporarily closed both directions of South Huron Streets and urged residents to stay away, while the Arapahoe County Bomb Squad (ACBS) investigated the device.

ACBS determined the device recovered a package and determined the device was non-explosive, EPD officials said.

Rotolo Park and South Huron Street were reopened around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This is the second report received by the EPD in recent days as they recovered a device that resembled a pipe bomb Saturday evening.

EPD officers were dispatched to Englewood Alternative High School at 300 W. Chenango Ave. at 4 p.m. Saturday and located a device that resembled a pipe bomb on the football field, said Scot Allen, a spokesperson for the department.

After locating what looked like a explosive devices, EPD officers secured the area and called ACBS for assistance.

ACBS retrieved what resembled a pipe bomb and said no other devices were found.

An investigation into Saturday’s incident is ongoing.
