Colorado State Patrol teams up with Vitalant for virtual blood drive

Many blood donations across the Centennial state have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In an attempt to offset the loss of events such as blood drives across Colorado, the Colorado State Patrol and Vitalant, the largest non-profit blood services provider in the United States, have teamed up to host a virtual blood drive.

The drive will run throughout the month of February and officials are encouraging anyone who can to donate.

“Donations of blood often see a sharp decline in the winter months and the COVID-19 epidemic has complicated things further … but the need for donations is still there,” officials said in a media release.

People donating can sign up on the drive’s online page on Vitalant website who will then be set an invitation to sign up and choose a location and time that best suits anyone’s schedule.

A single donation can save up to three lives, officials said.

Officials say donated blood will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

Registration is open now and will close on Feb. 28.
