Double shooting at Adams County Dollar General included woman in wheelchair; one arrested

suspects

Law enforcement officials say a man accused of shooting two people Tuesday at a Dollar General in Adams County was taken into custody following a six-hour standoff Wednesday.

The Arvada Police Department (APD) received a tip that 48-year-old Johnny McCaslin, was at his home in the 6100 block of Olde Wadsworth Boulevard.

Because McCaslin might be armed and because of his criminal history, the Jefferson County SWAT Team — which includes APD officers — was dispatched to the home to serve a parole violation arrest warrant.

During the lengthy standoff, the Denver Metro SWAT Team relieved Jefferson County’s team, said Dave Snelling, a spokesperson for APD.

Shortly after 9 p.m., SWAT team members used undisclosed “tactics” to apprehend McCaslin and a woman, Myrissa Montaro, 28, who was also in the home.

Officials did not specify what tactics were used.

The arrests followed a shooting that happened at a Dollar General at 5300 Sheridan Blvd just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday that left a man and a woman in a wheelchair wounded.

Police say the man and woman were checking out at the register and as they were leaving the store, McCaslin allegedly shot them both multiple times.

Information about the victims’ status is currently not available, but police previously said the injuries were not life-threatening.

McCaslin and Montaro fled the store in a black BMW sedan.

Charges against McCaslin will be made on Friday, said Adam Sherman, a public information officer for the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.

Sherman decline to say what charges would be filed.
