Douglas County accepting applications for annual community grant program

Applications are now open for Douglas County’s 2021 Philip S. Miller grants, providing funding to community organizations that enhance the quality of life for Douglas County residents.
Funding is available for organizations in the county that aid health and human services of at-risk children, vulnerable adults and other underserved populations.
Awarded programs have included suicide prevention, medical assistance and support for seniors and children.
“We thank and honor Philip S. Miller and his wife Jessie, who dedicated so much of their lives to helping others in Douglas County, by building upon their legacy of philanthropy,” Commissioner Abe Laydon said.
Douglas County seeks artists for outdoor sculpture exhibit
The Philip S. Miller grants have been distributed by the county annually since 1980 using the Miller’s charitable trust. The county has awarded nearly $8 million to 80 organizations so far.
Last year, $190,000 in grant funding was awarded to 28 organizations that serve Douglas County’s vulnerable populations.
“The extraordinary recipient organizations play a crucial role in providing services that bring an increased quality of life to our more vulnerable individuals and families,” Laydon said.
To apply, organizations must be a 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 tax-exempt organization.
