The Northern Colorado Bomb Squad on Friday investigated a package that resembled an explosive device.
Members of the bomb squad determined the device was no threat. It was an advanced capacitor auto part that was intended to be returned, officials said in a media release.
Fort Collins 9-1-1 dispatch received a report about an item resembling a explosive device inside a mailbox of a business in the 1100 block of North College Avenue at 1:10 p.m. Friday.
Authorities quickly evacuated the vicinity including nearby businesses and closed College Avenue.
“I’m grateful for the fast response of our officers, Bomb Squad, and area public safety partners who provided support,” said Fort Collins Police Patrol Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky.
“Calling police was absolutely the right thing to do in this situation, and we always encourage people to report suspicious circumstances law enforcement to investigate.”
