A body was found Saturday in the lake at Blue Heron Park in Littleton and a recovery effort was underway.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were at the park at 5518 S. Quail St. after receiving tips that Graham Herbert, 30, whose been missing since New Year’s Day, frequented the park, said Mike Taplin, the department’s public information officer.
Authorities were surveying the area using a drone and located a body in the lake Saturday morning, Taplin said.
The sheriff’s office requested assistance from West Metro Fire who attempted to recover the body Saturday, but were unsuccessful.
Deputies say efforts to retrieve the body will continue on Sunday.
No information regarding the body is being released at this time. Depending on how long it has been in the water, could take weeks to officially identify.
“If a body’s recovered from water, depending on how long it’s been in, the only way that they are going to be able to do any sort of identification confirmation is through DNA or dental records, and that could easily take three weeks,” Taplin said.
Deputies currently don’t believe there was any criminal activity involved.
