20-year-old man arrested for assault, murder of Fort Collins woman
Stephen McNeil, 20, was arrested Sunday in connection to the fatal assault of a woman in Fort Collins, the Fort Collins Police Department announced.
McNeil was charged with first-degree murder, domestic violence, violation of a protection order and violation of bail bond conditions.
“This heinous act of violence took a woman’s life and forever changed the lives of her loved ones,” said Lt. Jeremy Yonce. “We will continue working diligently to support her family and seek justice.”

Police said someone reported an unconscious, injured woman Saturday at 11 p.m. in the parking lot of 525 E. Drake Rd., near the Whispering Pines Apartments.
The woman was suffering from life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault, police said. She was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
The identity of the victim, as well as her cause of death, will be released at a later date by the Larimer County Coroner.
McNeil was quickly identified as a suspect in the murder and taken into custody Sunday at noon without incident, police said.

Police said McNeil and the victim knew each other but did not specify their relationship.
According to court records, McNeil was also facing charges for second-degree assault strangulation and harassment for an incident in Larimer County on Dec. 19, 2020.
McNeil is currently being held in the Larimer County Jail.
