A new report this month confirmed what many Denver residents already boast: their city is among the healthiest in the country.
This year, Denver was deemed the 10th healthiest city in the U.S. by personal finance website WalletHub, which analyzed a number of factors including the number of mental health counselors per capita, running trails per capita and even average COVID-19 cases over the past week.
Denver was ranked 10th out of 182 largest cities in the country were examined by WalletHub researchers. A major contributing factor to Denver’s high ranking has to do with the city’s fitness level, said Jill Gonzalez, a researcher for WalletHub.
“One of the things that stands out about (Denver) is the low share of obese residents — less than 23%,” said Gonzalez in an email statement to The Denver Gazette.
“This is a direct consequences of the fact that Denver is a good city for biking, and of the fact that 82% of adults engage in some type of physical activity.”
Among the four categories that contributed to each city’s final score, Denver was ranked the sixth highest in the fitness category, while dropping to 55th in health care, according to the ranking.
Although Denver was the highest ranked city in Colorado to make the list, other cities including Aurora (55) and Colorado Springs (54) were listed. Denver trailed San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and other cities in the rankings.
