Colorado ‘Fedora Bandit’ believed to have robbed metro Denver banks

Fedora bandit

Law enforcement officials believe two bank robberies committed in a 10-day span were committed by the same man — who perhaps could be dubbed the “Fedora Bandit.”

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a bank robbery in at a US Bank branch in the 8400 block of West Bowles Avenue in Littleton just after 11 a.m. Friday.

The man, who was wearing a beige fedora, presented a demand note to an employee and threatened to cause harm if the demands were not met, said Mike Taplin, a public information officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was given an undisclosed amount of money and ran away.

The FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets and JCSO believe the same bandit robbed a West Fargo Bank in Arvada on Feb. 2, Taplin said.

In both instances the suspect has been seen wearing a beige fedora and used a demand note during the robbery.

He has been described as a white male standing 5-foot-1-inches to 5-foot-3-inches tall with a medium build. He is estimated to be in his late 30s to 40s.

The suspect was wearing the fedora, a blue surgical mask, a black hooded jacket and blue pants during the robbery on Friday, Taplin said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or incidents is encouraged to contact JCSO’s tip line at 303-271-5612, the Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, or FBI at 303-629-7171.
