A man who was “nonchalantly” walking along Interstate 25 was fatally struck Saturday morning in Thornton.
Police received multiple reports of a man walking in the HOV lane along I-25 just before 9:30 a.m. but minutes later they would receive reports that he was struck. He was hit near 84th Avenue just minutes before officers located the man, said Jesus Mendez, a public information officer for the Thornton Police Department (TPD).
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Information about the man will be released at a later date by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal crash kept the southbound lanes shut down for a little more than an hour while police gathered information.
After an initial investigation, police say the driver is not expected to be charged.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
