Aurora police asking public to help in illegal street racing investigation
The Aurora Police Department is asking for the public to assist in the investigation into an illegal street racing incident on Sunday.
Police: Street racers in 600 to 800 vehicles block access to I-225 in Aurora
APD officials asked for the public to send any information or evidence regarding the illegal street race that brought as many as 800 vehicles onto Interstate-225 and stopped traffic Sunday evening.

“We are frustrated & angered, as is our community, by the blatant disregard to the safety of other motorists,” APD officials said in a tweet Tuesday.
“We must work in collaboration with one another to prevent further incidents like this. With your help, we will hold those involved responsible for their dangerous actions.”
Male victim found in Aurora street with multiple gunshot wounds
Southbound I-225 from East Colfax Avenue to East Alameda Avenue was closed due to the street racers who were blocked and interfering with traffic.

The shoulders of the interstate were also blocked, which prevented law enforcement from entering the area.
Police said they received reports of fireworks, smoke and weapons being waved during the incident Sunday.
The department tweeted about the incident originally at 9:48 p.m. and within 40 minutes, the interstate was cleared.
