Officers responded to a report of a large party on 10th Street in the University Hill neighborhood between Pennsylvania and College Avenues around 5 p.m. Saturday.
During that time, a crowd of around 100 people began pelting officers with glass bottles and prompted the activation of the department’s SWAT Unit.
Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol were called upon for assistance, BPD officials said.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m. SWAT officers returned to the area at 10th Street and College Avenue and announced three times “to disperse the unlawful assembly,” BPD officials said.
Several minutes later, large groups of students began flocking towards the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, while other individuals surrounded law enforcement and pelted rocks and bottled repeatedly.
By 9 p.m. Saturday, attendees stole a vehicle, damaged eight other vehicles for a total value of $43,500 in damages, stole three street signs, damaged two city vehicles including a BPD armored rescue vehicle and a fire engine, and left two SWAT member teams injured.
The following day members from CU Boulder, The City of Boulder and Boulder County District Attorney’s Office denounced the gathering and actions of some individuals.
“Our community was put at risk last night by individuals involved in the incident in the Hill area,” Dougherty said. “Their callous disregard for our community’s safety and well-being is shameful.”
Officials from CU Boulder condemned the actions of the individuals.
“A basic and nonnegotiable condition for being part of CU Boulder is accountability to each other and to the community,” said CU Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke.
“We have stated in very clear terms that students must comply with community-safety standards and public health orders during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
O’Rourke added that students who participated in violence, damaged property or refused to disperse will be subject to disciplinary action, including explosion from the institution with no possibility of readmission.
