On-the-go protein pack perfect for hiking recovery

Smart nutrition is key for recovery following any endurance sport, including strenuous hiking. As I’m getting back to my car following a fourteener climb, I often find myself craving a quick and easy protein source to help my muscles start the rebuilding process.

One brand of protein powder I’ve gravitated toward for quite some time is Tailwind Nutrition. A company based in Durango, I’ve found that the Tailwind ‘Rebuild Recovery’ line gets the job done, complete with caffeinated options.

While Tailwind Nutrition protein typically comes in a large bag that makes it difficult to take with you to the trailhead, the company now offers individually packaged servings. On a recent winter summit of the 14,043′ Mount Sherman, I gave this new option a test.

Upon finishing the climb and returning to my car, I found that the individually packaged serving easily mixed into a water bottle without getting clumpy or creating a mess. This gave me exactly what I wanted – a product I trust, but more convenient. While I typically struggle to find an appetite after strenuous activity, this quick and easy protein option offered a tasty drink alternative to some sort of bar or snack mix.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s in Tailwind Nutrition Rebuild Recovery, according to the company website:

“Tailwind Rebuild Recovery is the first sport recovery drink based on a patent-pending perfectly complete protein. We start with organic rice protein, and supplement it with amino acids to make that protein complete. Then we add carbohydrates, some healthy fats from coconut milk, and just the right amount of electrolytes. Nothing repairs your muscles more efficiently, restores your energy faster, and makes you feel better sooner. And athletes love the great tasting healthy vegan ingredients.”

A 6-pack of this product is $18, complete with three flavors – vanilla, chocolate, and caffeinated coffee. Find out more info about this product here.
