Adams County authorities investigating carjacking, shooting

Police Line Do Not Cross

An investigation is underway following a carjacking in Adams County shortly after midnight Saturday.

Adams County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a carjacking near the intersection of 76th Avenue and Pecos Street in Sherrelwood at 12:01 a.m.

Deputies located two juvenile male victims who were parked at “The Villas” Apartments when two adult Hispanic men displayed semi-automatic handguns and demanded their valuables and vehicle, according to a release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims complied with the robbers’ demands and after entering the vehicle, fired a shot that “narrowly” missed the victim’s head.

The robbers fled in a gold 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer and fired several more shots while speeding out of the parking lot, ACSO officials said.

Less than 10 minutes later, Westminster police officers were dispatched to a rollover motor vehicle accident at 72nd Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

Officers found the same Chevrolet Trailblazer that was carjacked from “The Villas” under two miles away from the crash site, but the car was unoccupied.

Investigators said witnesses saw the men exiting the vehicle and running away after the crash, and that four of the men appeared to be wearing bullet resistant vests.

ACSO’s Laboratory and Crime Scene Team responded to the scene to survey and gather information.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact ACSO Detective Division 720-322-1212 or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
