Current forecasts project that 12 to 18 inches of snow could drop at DIA and the metro area with as much as two to four feet along the foothills and Front Range. On Saturday, anywhere between 4 to 8 inches of snow are possible in Denver, said Kari Bowen, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Boulder.
In response to the storm, 744 flights were cancelled on Saturday with an additional 134 flights that are currently delayed as of 1:30 p.m.
Due to the high number of cancellations, DIA officials are urging all passengers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
“A good way to avoid being stuck overnight is to confirm your flight status before you head out to the airport and take advantage of any option to reschedule your flight if possible,” said Emily Williams, a spokesperson for DIA.
Several airlines including Frontier, Southwest and United Airlines are offering customers with trips this weekend travel vouchers.

Although DIA officials’ worst case scenario is having passengers stranded overnight, their staff is prepared if that happens.

“If passengers get stranded overnight, we have supplies available and our customer service team can also help direct people to hotels with availability nearby,” Williams said.
