6 arrested so far in connection to party-turned-riot near CU Boulder

The Boulder Police Department has arrested five more people for rioting during a massive party near the University of Colorado at Boulder, bringing the total number of arrests up to six.

Around 800 people were present at the party on March 6, which ended in a SWAT response, tens of thousands of dollars in property damage and the injury of three police officers, according to BPD.

A team of 15 detectives have gone through over 1,000 tips submitted to police since the party to make the six arrests, BPD said Monday.

Boland Dodge, 21, was booked into jail and then released. He was charged with misdemeanor engaging in a riot, obstructing government operations and violating a public health order.
Brandon Hoover, 24, was booked into jail and then released. He was charged with misdemeanor engaging in a riot, disobeying public safety orders under riot conditions, violating a public health order, obstructing a highway and disorderly conduct.
Eric Hoover, 24, was booked into jail and then released. He was charged with misdemeanor engaging in a riot, disobeying public safety orders under riot conditions, violating a public health order, obstructing a highway and disorderly conduct.
Garrett Doyle, 22, was arrested and remains in custody. He was charged with felony menacing, criminal attempted second-degree assault on a peace officer, misdemeanor engaging in a riot, violating a public health order, disobeying public safety orders under riot conditions and disorderly conduct.
Parker Clemons, 20, was arrested and remains in custody. He was charged with engaging in a riot, violating a public health order and criminal mischief.
Henry Chardack, 20, was arrested last week after turning himself in. He was held on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief and engaging in a riot.

BPD said it has identified “several” other suspects who engaged in riot activity during the party. Police anticipate that more arrests will be made this week.

Police were first called to the party at 5 p.m. at 10th Street and College Avenue on University Hill. When officers arrived, they were charged by a group of around 100 people and pelted with rocks and bottles, injuring three officers, BPD said.

By 5:40 p.m., police said there were hundreds of partiers inside homes, standing on rooftops and flooding the residential street. Once the SWAT team arrived at around 6 p.m., it took nearly four hours to disperse the crowd.

By 9 p.m., party attendees had stolen a vehicle, caused $43,500 in damages to eight civilian vehicles, stolen three street signs, set off fireworks and damaged two city vehicles, including a BPD armored rescue vehicle and a fire engine.

Numerous officials throughout the state have denounced the party-turned riot, including Gov. Jared Polis, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty and CU Chief Operating Officer Patrick O’Rourke.

O’Rourke said students who participated in violence, property destruction or refused to disperse when ordered by officers will be disciplined, including being removed from CU Boulder without the possibility of readmission.

As of Monday, no expulsions or suspensions have been announced by the university.

CU Boulder student Taylor Turbyne has created a petition demanding the expulsion of all students present at the party. The petition has received over 1,600 signatures so far as of Monday evening.

BPD is continuing to ask for the public’s help in identifying wanted suspects. Police released additional photos and videos of suspects Monday available here and here.
