Denver International Airport reopened four of its six runways after closing them Sunday during the blizzard that dumped more than 2 feet of snow on the airport. 

All six of the runways at DIA were closed at noon Sunday because of low visibility and snowpack. Officials announced they had reopened and flights were resuming at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

As of midnight, 27.1 inches of snow accumulated at the airport, according to the National Weather Service. DIA is the official recording station for the city.

All airlines ceased operations at the airport Sunday afternoon because of the dangerous weather conditions, canceling 2,612 flights and delaying 4,313, according to flightaware.com.

DIA has canceled 1,048 flights scheduled for Monday and delayed 183 more as of 3 p.m. Monday. Nearly 70 flights have been canceled or delayed for Tuesday.

On Saturday, 1,981 flights were canceled and 4,315 were delayed at DIA.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to check their flight status before going to the airport.

Officials said crews worked throughout the night to clear snow on the runways, parking lots and Peña Boulevard leading to the airport; however, conditions are still dangerous.

On Sunday evening, Peña Boulevard was declared impassable because of the dozens of cars trapped on the side of the roads. While the road is now passable, officials said it is still snow-packed and icy.

DIA officials suggest anyone traveling to the airport to avoid driving and instead take the RTD A Line, which resumed operations at 3:15 a.m. Monday.

The airport has prepared supplies in the event travelers get stranded at DIA because of the storm.
