The victim of Saturday’s fatal car crash in downtown Denver has been identified by family member as 40-year-old Jessica Marie Allen, a mother of two.
Allen’s mother told Denver7 that Allen was delivering food when her car was T-boned by an SUV in the 1800 block of Lawrence Street, outside of Urban Putt. Police announced the crash just after 10 p.m.
Allen, who was driving a sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her official cause of death has not been released.
Police said the SUV driver has been arrested and charged with one count of vehicular homicide. Additional charges, including DUI and vehicular assault, are being presented to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Police said they believe alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash but official results are pending an investigation and toxicology report.
The driver’s identity has not been released but police confirmed he is an adult male.
One dead, 2 injured in downtown Denver car crash
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover funeral expenses and help support Allen’s family. Allen is survived by her two daughters, husband, parents and five siblings.
“My baby, I will miss you forever,” Allen’s mother Sue Wainwright wrote on Facebook.
A passenger in the SUV and a pedestrian hit by debris were also injured in the crash, police said.
Those two victims were taken to a hospital. Their conditions are unknown but police said the passenger suffered serious bodily injuries.
Police believe the crash resulted from the SUV entering the intersection at a high speed and colliding with Allen’s sedan, pushing it against the Urban Putt building and then hitting the building and rolling on its side.
Part of the brick wall on the northwest side of the Urban Putt building was knocked out during the crash.
