A driver was killed in Aurora on Tuesday evening after his SUV crashed into a tree, the Aurora Police Department said.
Police said the crash happened about 5:15 p.m. at South Peoria Street and East Alameda Avenue, near Aurora Hills Golf Course.
Investigators believe the driver was going southbound on South Peoria Street when he lost control and struck the tree. No other vehicles appear to have been involved, police said.
The driver, a man, was the only occupant of the SUV. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver’s identity and cause of death will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.
Investigators believe weather was a contributing factor to the crash. At the time, it was cloudy and raining.
Investigators do not believe alcohol was involved, but they are looking into other possible contributing factors, including speed.
