The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has launched a new campaign aimed to help Coloradans receive credible information about the COVID-19 vaccine, reduce hesitancy and provide information about making appointments.

Colorado in 'fourth wave' of pandemic, officials say, but state still plans to devolve COVID regulation to counties

CDPHE’s ‘Power the Comeback’ campaign officially launched one week after Coloradans 16 and up became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

“With expanded eligibility, we are using a layered and targeted outreach campaign to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine information and appointments for those who have been hardest hit by the pandemic,”  CDPHE Executive Director Jill Hunsaker Ryan said in a release.

“We hope to further eliminate any barriers people have to get the vaccine, and make sure we are reaching everyone. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and are the key to powering Colorado’s comeback.

The campaign is available in both English and Spanish and was informed by more than 65 stokeholders from local public health agencies, nonprofits and multiple Colorado-led research panels, CDPHE officials said.

Additionally more than 100 community influencers with a wide variety of backgrounds, races, ages and genders took part in the campaign. CDPHE says the use of these influencers will help reach a larger audience rather than using traditional efforts.

Power the Comeback’s launch also comes just two days after a mass vaccination event at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Commerce City was abruptly closed after 11 people suffered adverse reactions.

On Friday, state health officials said during a press conference that the reactions seen at the site on Wednesday were likely the result of people not eating or drinking prior to their appointment.

Anxiety caused by a fear of needles also may have played a role in the reactions.
