Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is starting its rehabilitation project on the 48th Avenue bridge in northwest Denver Monday night. 

The bridge will be closed from 8:30 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday as crews remove asphalt from the top side of the bridge. 

Construction for the project will last until the fall, with work hours scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work will occasionally continue overnight and on the weekends as needed.

The project aims to extend the life of the bridge, which was built in the 1970s.

The bridge spans over several rail lines, serving as an essential connection between the Globeville, Sunnyside and Chaffee Park neighborhoods.

During construction, detour signs will be posted to direct drivers around the bridge. On most days, one lane will remain open over the bridge, with flaggers stationed to direct traffic into the lane.
