RTD Park-n-Ride at Broadway Marketplace to close permanently

The 240 parking spaces at RTD’s Broadway Marketplace Park-n-Ride location will no longer be open to transit riders beginning Thursday, the agency said.

RTD has decided not to renew its license for the Broadway Marketplace location after leasing the space since 2000 for customers to park their cars while using the bus and rail system.

“Parking spaces in this lot are underused and they will eventually be lost due to redevelopment of the property,” the company said in a release. “Extending an existing lease for these spaces was deemed not a prudent use of public dollars.”

This comes as RTD has struggled financially during the COVID-19 pandemic as the health risk has led public transport traffic to plummet. RTD limited its service plan in April 2020 and again in January to account for the fewer customers.

Repair work to begin on RTD University of Denver parking garage

Anyone who parks in the Broadway Marketplace location Thursday or afterward will risk being ticketed and towed by the property owner.

The Broadway Marketplace Park-n-Ride location serves the Alameda Station, which provides light rail lines D, E and H, as well as bus routes 1, 3, 4 and 52.

Customers can continue to use other nearby RTD parking spaces that serve the Alameda Station, including the I-25/Broadway Station Park-n-Ride which can be accessed from the intersection of Cherokee Street and West Virginia Avenue.
