Twenty people are looking for a new place to live Wednesday after a fire caused by an electrical issue with a bathroom fan led to a blaze at an Aurora apartment complex.
Aurora Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to an apartment in the 16400 block of East 17th Place at 4:53 a.m. after reports of a large fire. One initial fire crew arrived and upgraded the situation to a “working fire response,” said Dan Pollet, a spokesperson for AFR.
Four engine companies and three ladder trucks then responded to the apartment. Crews began suppressing efforts on the blaze, while other firefighters began escorting families to safety.
Within 40 minutes, crews had successfully contained the fire, and no reports of injuries were made. However, 20 people have been displaced and are seeking assistance from the Red Cross, said Pollet.
An initial investigation of the fire determined it was started by “an electrical problem with the bathroom fan,” Pollet said.
The blaze spread across the third level of the apartment complex and into the attic, which made some units uninhabitable.
